Curry puffs or as we call it, Karipap is a comfort food for Malaysians. Well, any Malaysian food is comfort food to us. 🙂 Karipap is also known as epok-epok and is quite similar to Empanadas. Karipap is a dough stuffed with dry curried minced meat or sardines and then fried. Some add a quarter of a hard boiled egg in it. On a regular day, I would make Karipap using ready made puff pastry as I don’t have a good hand with dough ( I always over handle it). Omg! I was Christmas baking with my friend. I made keto rumballs and started my keto pumpkin pie crust while he whipped up this recipe. At first I was a bit skeptical: Mozzarella cheese? O M G! These are award winning. No lie. I was sent home with a small batch of them and I am hoarding them lol. MINE! All mine lol . The rest of my non-keto family better stay away!
The best part about this recipe is that it’s simple, and once you have it down, you can replicate this keto friendly bread any time you want. I’ve been making a low carb loaf every Sunday for the past few weeks and would recommend that to anyone. It’s so nice to have a loaf of bread at your disposal when you’re on a low carb diet. Can I eat an apple on a low carb diet

This recipe is perfect. I did half a batch and made six rolls. I used the correct amount of almond flour simply because I didn’t have the nuts in my pantry. These rolls are perfect and moist. I also added some pieces of chopped apple as a treat because it’s apple season and my goal was low carb not Keto. I’m so happy I found this recipe. With winter coming this will be a great treat.

Dear Darlene Hi,There are many keto bread recipes online, this one caught my attention owing to its promise of not smelling eggy. That claim holds true to a large extent. I used baking powder instead of xanthum gum but even then the texture was good .Overall a great recipe which I hope and continue to improve. However I am confused about the net carbs in the nutrition box. As per my understanding net carbs are total carbs – sugar – dietary fiber which in this case will not be logical. Can you pls advise the net carb per slice as per the recipe. Thanks a lot.
But since I’m on a Keto way of eating, I had to find an alternative. The filling is perfectly fine and I did not have to use any substitutes. The dough however, was my problem. Few days ago, I found a Keto empanada recipe and it took me back to my trip to Spain last summer and I had 2 empanadas and that reminded me of karipap. So after some research, I decided to use a Keto empanada dough recipe but fill it with dry mince meat curry to make Malaysian karipap. I was a little hesitant because using a cheese dough recipe for karipap as it seemed like an abomination to karipap, but after I had my first bite I can safely say, IT’S DAMN DELICIOUS! You can’t even tell that it was made from cheese!

Hi Suraya…..stumble on yr site while surfing for healthy oils as i make my own oils namely coconut, peanut, sunflower and flaxseed….own consumption and selling to close relatives and friends. Since my husband’s episode of ” heart attack” few years ago, i’ve started realizing that our staple diet among malaysians are full of sugars, fast food and carbs. The more i research the more I’ve come to realize that the main ingredients are so full of preservatives, colorings and additives….This keto diet that i’ve come across so frequently nowdays has made me thinking of trying it but with the mentality especially for asians….rice and flour is a must have on our dinner tables including my husband….i can only wonder.

just to share with you that i normally buy my cheese, butter, almond flour, nuts…from bakery ingredients shops that are selling much more cheaper than retail shops and supermarket. eg. i get raw almond and almond flour around RM39-41/kg, walnut around the same price. mozzarella RM50+/2kg block, cheddar RM70+/2kg block, cooking cream RM5/pack, while coconut flour RM12+ at Aeon….while i travel in eastern Europe, i’ll buy MCT oil and coconut oil which is ridiculously cheaper than Malaysia, eg, pure MCT oil is selling RM30+/400ml while the one i found in KL is selling RM60+ 300ml and VCO is RM20+/1l while RM60+ in Malaysia. also, in Eastern Europe, animal fats are easily available and cheap, if you happened to travel here you can pack some home.
